AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championship

The Absolute Moscow Marathon is the qualifying race for the Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championship 2020.

Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championship

Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Championship launched by Abbott World Marathon Majors and Wanda Group. The top ranked runners in age groups can qualify to participate in the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships, to be held within the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon.

The list of qualifying races includes all six AbbottWMM marathons, as well as several dozens of other marathons across the world. Among them is the Absolute Moscow Marathon. The full list of the qualifying races is available on worldmarathonmajors.com.

How does the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Ranking work?

Participants in an AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Ranking qualifying race will earn points according to their age, time and gender, aligned with the following age groups for men and women: 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.

The best two results in select qualifying marathons over this period will count for each runner’s ranking. The top-ranked runners in every age group will qualify to run in the spring 2020 AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships.

The scoring system is available on worldmarathonmajors.com

How are points scored to the participants of six Abbott WMM races?

The maximum points that can be scored in any race by an age-group winner is 4,000. The age group winners in any Abbott WMM race will automatically get 4,000 points.

Any age group athlete who is within 29 seconds of the age group winning time receives 10 points less, earning 3990 points. Runners within 30-59 seconds of the winning time receive 20 points less - that is 3980 points. Those earning times within 60-89 seconds less than the age group winning time receive 30 points less, and so on.

How are points scored to the participants of marathons beyond the six AbbottWMM races?

For those athletes who participate in qualifying races that are not part of the Abbott WMM series (including the Absolute Moscow Marathon), a platinum time has been calculated A platinum time uses standard multiples of the ‘mean’ of the current marathon world record times for each age group and gender.

In order to get 4000 points, an athlete has to finish faster than the "platinum time". In the future, the same system will be used for scoring, as well as for participants of majors with the same points degradation - 29 seconds.

If the age group winning time is below the platinum time, then the points awarded to the winner and every subsequent age group runner are reduced by the time the age group winner has missed platinum time for the age and gender of the athlete.

Platinum times for each age group are as follows:

Men
40-44 — 2:26
45-49 — 2:34
50-54 — 2:41
55-59 — 2:50
60-64 — 3:00
65-69 — 3:09
70-74 — 3:21
75-79 — 3:51
80+ — 4:17

Women
40-44 — 2:46
45-49 — 2:48
50-54 — 3:04
55-59 — 3:18
60-64 — 3:33
65-69 — 3:48
70-74 — 4:09
75-79 — 4:51
80+ — 5:33

How long will the qualification period last?

The qualification period for the Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings starts on September 16, 2018 at the BMW BERLIN MARATHON and ends on September 29, 2019.

Participants of the Absolute Moscow Marathon will be able to run the qualification race twice this year and next year.

Charity

Life Line Charity Foundation

The Life Line Charity Foundation has become the charity partner of the Running Community. Now, when registering for our races you can make a donation for this foundation and help children.

The Life Line Charity Foundation provides support to ill children, who suffer from life threatening diseases. This charity funds medical equipment acquisition, high tech surgeries and medical research. Over the past 15 years the Foundation has provided targeted support to more than 10,500 children.

One of Life Line’s work directions is endoprosthesis in the treatment of sarcoma (bone tumors). For a long time it was considered that amputation is the only effective method of treatment of bone cancer. However, at the moment specialized treatment using insertion of high tech prosthesis allows children to keep their limbs and return to normal life. A single endoprosthesis costs Rub 2.5mln — an insurmountable sum of money for the majority of families in Russia. Together we can accumulate necessary funds to save children with bone tumors. Each donation is valuable!
